There's a story that there was music
vibrating through Pete's body even before he was
born. His mother takes pride and some credit for
his musical talents and abilities today as it was
her learning to play guitar when she was pregnant
with Pete that sent such sounds.
Maybe it was her way of bringing in
her sixth addition to the Bourke clan or maybe it
was something more fateful then that, but in any
case a foundation had been set.
Music became a staple part of Pete's
diet throughout his childhood and teenage years and
the guitar quickly moved to the forefront.
Playing music slowed down in his early
20's largely due to global travel then refocused
itself in the year 2000.
In March of 2002 Pete hooked up with
his good friend Michael McCann from Behavior Music
and officially recorded his first all original album.
"For You To See" consists of 12 songs
including three instrumentals and was made in the
barest of form with only acoustic guitar and vocals.
The songs came from a ten-year span so there are
quite a few different styles throughout the CD. The
idea was to use it as a "feeler" kind of CD to see
how the songs held up and to get a feel for the direction
to follow in the future.
The feedback was very positive and
the ideas for how things could be built up and where
other instruments could be added have set the ball
in motion for the next recording.
These days you can catch Pete playing
in and around Calgary about 2 - 4 times a month.
Plans are in place for recording to
start towards the end of 2003 for what will essentially
be the debut full-length album for Peter Bourke.
You can look forward to some of the
favorites from "For You To See", some great new creations
since then, and some more trademark "Pete Instrumentals".
Until then look for his name listed
in and around Calgary for one of his ever-changing
live performances. |
